Jeff Pulver is generously providing free calling to the USA and Canada for the holiday season:
When you use your Free World Dialup account, today through the end of the year, you can now place calls into the USA and Canada, for free, by dialing *1 and the areacode and number.
This is very cool. Way to go Jeff.
Get yourself a SIP phone and sign-up for FWD. You can use a soft-phone, but frankly, PC’s don’t make very good telephones (they’re kind of heavy to carry around the house). You can get a real SIP phone for as little as $65 or get a SIP Telehpone Adapter for $72 and use a regular household phone (e.g. a cordless).
FWD has to be the best thing to hit the Internet since Napster.
Basically, what Jeff is doing is proving a case that there is demand for VoIP and more importantly that people can use it, that the quality remains there at a grade similar to PSTN.
Hats off to the most evengelical person in the VoIP space, Jeff Pulver.
