Vodafone softphone in Germany

Infoworld reports that Vodafone Germany will let users make and receive calls abroad using a PC, “effectively rendering roaming charges a thing of the past.”

Given that there are dozens of ways to make calls using a PC already, I’m not quite sure I see significance of here.
