iPhone software unlock released

The iPhone appears to be cracked: see story on Gizmodo

This appears to be a software-only hack and doesn’t require any hardware hacks. It looks like it relies on a buffer overflow bug and is probably, therefore, extremely iphone code version dependent.

So, can one buy an iPhone without an AT&T service contract?
