Alec Sunders has a nice post with some good things to like about the Emerging Telephony Conference next week in San Francisco.
I couldn’t agree more. I’m not suggesting that people should stop attending VON or TMC’s Internet Telephony conferences. In fact, I see these as all fantastically complementary. It’s perfect that Etel is so difrferent from VON. One thing I love about Etel is that if a vendor stood in front of a crowd with the typical ’sales pitch’ presentation, droning on about how their session border controller is somehow better than their competitor’s, chaos would ensue. 
If you want to see some unique visions for the future of telephony, Etel is the place to be. Will these visionaries be right? We won’t know for a while, but what I can say with certainty is that the ideas will be thought provoking. I hope Etel doesn’t have to turn into another VON to survive. Let’s keep it going, by showing up!
